What is SEO?

SEO (search engine optimisation) is the process by which the authority and relevance of your website for particular search queries (keywords) is increased. The goal of a search engine such as Google, Bing or Yahoo, is to show users the best and most authoritative pages for their searches.  For example you wouldn’t want to look up football scores and be shown the latest golf result.  Equally, you wouldn’t want to look up where the local butchers is only to be shown one 50 miles away (that’s local search).  SEO is about building your brand online and demonstrating you are the go-to authority for your products or services. Over time you will see increased rankings for your website and an increase in traffic.  That’s SEO – optimising your site so people can find it easily.

When does SEO start?

SEO is almost more effective when it’s built into a web project from the start.  However, that’s not to say the search engine rankings of an existing website cannot be greatly improved with optimisation.  Contact us and we can perform an audit on your site so you can see how it can be improved based on the keywords you want it to rank better for.

How much does SEO cost?

What is 'great content' and why is this needed for SEO?

Any high performing website will have a lot of content.  This is generally content that is highly relevant and valuable to your market.  Great content is over 300 words long, completely unique (ie not copied from anywhere else) and has all apsetcs of it optimised, including all the images used.  It will also include inbound and outbound links to more relevant content to your market.

How much content does my site need?

The amount of content per article should exceed 300 words, though in reality it’s how much content is really needed to cover the content being written about.  Generally, a top ranking site’s articles will have in excess of 1000 words.  This content is generally better shared across the internet too which also helps your ranking.  You should really be generating at least one quality blog article a week if you really wish to push your SEO organically.

What's the difference between organic SEO and Paid Search or PPC

You can always spot a paid search as it is accompanied by a green AD logo next to the advertiser’s website URL / title.  Generally there are 4 paid results at the top of Google for competitive keywords.  The organic keywords always appear below these.  If you wish to try PPC, you need a Google Adwords account and then a campaign setup.  To appear just as an organic search you need a website and tailored content along with a host of other technical techniques.

What is White Hat vs Black Hat?

White Hat SEO is SEO which sits within Google’s Webmaster Guidelines.  Black Hat SEO are techniques which reside outside these guidelines.  Black Hat might get you faster results, but penalise you further down the line.  Grey Hat SEO is when the site operates within White Hat and Black Hat techniques.
